Artist Statement
I am a Dominican-American sculptor, painter, and printmaker. Highly influenced by my direct contact with Caribbean culture and New York City street culture, my creative sources are usually gathered from urban pop culture, graphic abstract symbolism and my living memories.
The formal aspect of my work is a colorful synthesis of playful approaches to languages (Spanish-English) that I think better represent my latino and Dominican-York heritage. My work combines printing expertise with the movement and joyfulness of life. They are quick and dynamic assemblages made with simple materials. By collaging forms and fusions of imaginary creatures with daily-life objects I attend to free interpret the contrasts, dualisms and paradoxes so present in the latino experiences of New York City.
